If a tooth has been knocked out, try to place it back in the socket gently without touching the root, or keep it in milk. For a broken or chipped tooth, rinse your mouth with warm salt water and avoid chewing on that side. If you have swelling, hold a cold compress against the outside of your cheek in 10-minute intervals. And if there is heavy bleeding, bite down firmly on a clean piece of gauze or cloth.
